Simple Scan doesn't collect, transmit, or sell any of your data. Every document you scan is saved only in the app's private storage on your own device. Nothing leaves your phone unless you explicitly tap Share. There are no accounts, no ads, and no analytics in this app.
01 Information we collect
Simple Scan itself collects nothing. There is no account system, no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no crash-reporting service built into the app. We have no server, so there is nowhere for your data to go even if we wanted it to.
02 Document scanning & the camera
Capturing a document is handled by Google's ML Kit Document Scanner, a component provided by Google Play services that runs as its own screen outside of Simple Scan's code. Simple Scan never accesses your camera directly and never sees the raw camera feed — Google's scanner hands us back only the finished PDF you approved.
Because that scanning component belongs to Google, its own handling of camera data is covered by Google's Privacy Policy, not this one.
03 App permissions
Simple Scan does not declare permission to your camera, contacts, location, or microphone. The two permissions present in the app come from the Google Play services libraries it depends on, not from Simple Scan's own code:
INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — used by Google Play services to deliver and update the on-device scanning model. Simple Scan's own code never opens a network connection.
04 Where your scans live
Every PDF you scan is written to Simple Scan's private storage folder, a space on your device that only this app can read — not shared storage, not a cloud bucket. Renaming or deleting a scan in the app deletes the file immediately. Uninstalling Simple Scan removes everything permanently.
05 Sharing a scan
Tapping Share hands your PDF to Android's own share sheet, which lists whatever apps you have installed — Mail, Drive, Messages, and so on. You choose the destination each time; Simple Scan has no default recipient and keeps no record of what you shared or with whom.
06 Third-party services
The only third-party component in Simple Scan is Google Play services / ML Kit, used solely for the scanning screen described in section 2. No other third-party libraries, SDKs, or services are included.
07 Children's privacy
Simple Scan is not directed at children and, per section 1, does not collect data from anyone, regardless of age.
